– Dr. Primitivo Delgado 93
of Summit St. Bluefield, VA joined the Lord in Heaven September 14, 2006.
Dr. Delgado was born
December 9, 1912 in Caibarien, Cuba to Victor Mariano Delgado and Andrea Perez
Gomez Delgado.
He was a graduate of
Harrison-Chilhowee The Kings Academy, Carson-Newman College, The Southern
Baptist Theological Seminary, and Radford University.
He served as pastor of
Marion Baptist Church, Marion VA, and academic dean and professor at Bluefield
College, Bluefield, VA. He practiced psychology in Bluefield and was a former
member of the American Psychological Association. He was a lifetime member and
past president of the Rotary Club of Bluefield, and was the 1991 recipient of
the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, served on the board of directors of the
Salvation Army and The Widowed Persons Organization. He taught an adult Sunday
school class at First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, WV. Dr. Delgado & his
wife were members of First Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV where he served as a
deacon. He also was the honored recipient of numerous medals and awards.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, and six brothers, Marcello, Anjelo, Frank, Victor, Manuel, and
Raymond.
He is survived by his
wife Hazel Martin Delgado, his children Lofton Primo Delgado (Jo Lynn) and
Andrea Maria Gruver (Robert K.), all now residing in Ohio.
He is also survived by
eight grandchildren: Kristin Delgado, Jacob Delgado, Joshua Delgado, Kevin
Gruver, Sarah Delgado, Kyle Clum, Diana Gruver, and Kori Marie Clum, and was
also the proud great grandparent of Elizabeth Ryianne Delgado.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday September 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at
the Harmon Chapel of Bluefield College with Dr. Timothy Crawford officiating.
Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Princeton, WV.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Delgado, Joshua Delgado, Kevin Gruver, Kyle Clum, Eric
Wohlford and Bryan Wohlford. Honorary Pallbearers will be Denos Demopoulos, Don
Rice, Jerry Peters and Michael Palmer.
The family will receive
friends Sunday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Harmon Chapel at Bluefield
College.
The family has requested
that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Primitivo Delgado
