Mrs. Anna Belle
Looney formerly of Bluefield and Charleston, West Virginia and a resident of San
Antonio, Texas since 1997 passed into her Lord's hands on September 12, 2006 at
the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Reverend
Noah Webster Looney; daughter, Judith Ann; parents, Rev. Lee Mitchell Burris and
Nellie Callahan Burris, stepmother, Ida Burris; brothers, Leslie, George, and
Graham. She is survived by her sons, Dr. Gerald Looney and wife Joan of Los
Angeles, California and Dr. Timothy Looney and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Mabel and Chap Hale of Trinity, Florida and Irene
and Tom Morrell of Easley, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Beverly Burris of San
Antonio; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She was born on
March 18, 1912 at Benhams, Virginia. She graduated from Marion Community Junior
College and West Virginia State College. She was very active in the West
Virginia United Methodist Church where her husband served as minister in
multiple southern West Virginia churches. She led women’s church groups and
taught bible classes. She was a member and past president of the West Virginia
Conference Ministers’ Wives Association. In the late 1980’s she participated in
short-term mission projects in West Virginia, Mexico and Jamaica through the
West Virginia Annual Conference Volunteers in Mission. After her husband’s death
in 1975, she felt it was her life mission to carry out his work in the church.
She was loved by
all and will be remembered as a sweet and caring person who always put others
first.
A viewing will
take place Sunday, September 17, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Mercer
Funeral Home, Bluefield, West Virginia. The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.
M. Monday, September 18 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bluefield, West
Virginia. Internment will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
