Bluefield, WV- Dixie Lee Sowers, 92, of 2652 South Lane, Bluefield, died Thursday November 30, 2006 at her residence.

     Mrs. Sowers was the daughter of the late Crockett Franklin Lambert and Virginia Anne Combs Lambert and sister of the late Frances Anne Lambert Doughten.  She was a member of the College Avenue Baptist Church.  She was a graduate of Beaver High School, class of 1932 and a graduate of the Norwegian Lutheran School of Nursing, Brooklyn, New York in 1935.

     Mrs. Sowers was employed as a private duty nurse at the old Bluefield Sanitarium for many years and then employed as a Public Health Nurse with the County and State Public Health Departments of West Virginia.  She retired after 26 years of service.

     She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Day Sowers, one sister, Rebecca (Betty) Lambert Taulbee of Van Nuys, California, one niece, Anne Ferrell Akers of Aiken, South Carolina and one nephew, James Taulbee of Van Nuys, California.

     Private services will be conducted at a later time. 

     Contributions may be made to College Avenue Baptist Church Memorial Fund, Jefferson Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.
