Bluefield, WV - Nora Vee Thacker Honts 88 of 1405 Whitethorn Street Bluefield died Thursday May 24, 2007 at a Bluefield hospital.

    Born November 23, 1918 in Huntington, WV she was a daughter of the late Vilas Thacker and Jean Vinson Thacker. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bluefield and retired as the official Circuit Court Reporter for the 9th Judicial Circuit. During her career she worked with Judge Easley, Judge Wagner, Judge Katz, Judge Jarrett and Judge Frazier.

    Nora Vee attended public schools in Fort Gay, WV, and was a graduate of Fort Gay High School and graduated from Marshall College in 1940. She was living in Bluefield before marrying Robert G. Honts in August of 1941, residing in Portland, ME and Norfolk, VA during World War II while Bob served in the U.S. Navy, and returned to Bluefield in 1946.

    Active in both civic and community affairs, Nora Vee was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 66, the White Shrine, Bluefield Quota Club and the A.A.U.W. She was one of the founders, and a Charter member of the Summit Players, performing since the first play, and serving in many capacities for several decades. She loved gardening, and resided in the boyhood home of Dr. John Nash. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert G. Honts, two sisters, Louberta Workman and Virginia Adkins and a brother James Thacker.

    She is survived by her daughter Jennifer McGhee and her husband Sr. retired Judge John R. “Jack” McGhee of Bluefield, a granddaughter Juli Goulet and her husband Robert of Marlboro, MA, step grandchildren Lisa Bilik and her husband Joe of Midlothian, VA, Allison Hile and her husband Dr. Matthew Hile of St. Louis, MO and John R. McGhee, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Charleston, WV, and step great-grandchildren Rob, Jake and Lucas Goulet, Kristi and Kathy Bilik, Simon Hile, John R. McGhee, III, Perry McGhee and Virginia McGhee, and special loved friends Dr. Charles Olmsted and John Feuchtenberger.

    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday May 30, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen A. Hammond officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Darrell Belcher, Ricky Isaac, Ed Shaffrey, Larry Morhous, Harold Brewster and Ralph Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Perkins, Dr. William Merva, Perry Blackwell, Joe Horton, Joe Sanders, Dr. Rahda and Prima Krishnan, Bobby Richardson, Deborah Garton, Judge John Frazier, Judge David Knight and Eleanor Kinsinger and Sharon Isaac.

    The family will receive friends Tuesday May 29, 2007 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
