
Bluefield - Billy R. Duncan,
77, of 116 Allendale St., Bluefield, VA, died Thursday June 22, 2006 in a
Bluefield hospital after a long courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born March 20, 1929 in
Bluefield, WV he was a son of the late Victor D. and Orpha Blackwell Duncan
In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by a son; Tommy Wayne Duncan, four brothers;
Victor ”Buddy”, Earnest, Earl, and Herbert Duncan and five sisters; Helen
Gilliam, Pauline Creasy, Lillian Hardy, Mable Comer, and Evelyn Becorest.
Mr. Duncan was a
graduate of Beaver High School Class of 1949, a veteran of the Korean War having
served in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. He was a retired Cable
Supervisor from GTE after 30 years of service, Mr. Duncan was also a charter
member of the Edgemont Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Men’s
Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his
wife of 55 years; Dolly Galate Duncan of Bluefield, a son; Ronald Ray Duncan and
wife Kathy of Salem, VA;three step-grandchildren; Andy, Jonathan, and Matthew
Neal, three step-great grandchildren; Morgan and Jordan Neal, and Jacob Miller,
two brothers; Richard Duncan and wife Bernice of Bluefield, VA, Freddie Duncan
and wife Carol of Bluefield, WV, two sisters; Grace Guills of Columbia, SC, and
Margaret Dunkle of Aberdeen, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr.
Duncan will be conducted Monday June 26, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. from the Mercer
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Owens officiating. Internment will follow
from the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery located in Princeton. Serving the
family as Pallbearers will be; Andy Neal, Jonathan Neal, Matthew Neal, Donnie
Gott, Bo Stephenson, and Stevie Duncan. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members
of the Men’s Sunday School Class of Edgemont Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers
memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Edgemont Baptist Church
Building Fund, 2510 Jefferson Drive, Bluefield, WV 24701.
