- Ronald E. Quick, Sr. 71, of 2108 Washington Street, Bluefield, died Thursday
June 15, 2005 at his residence.
Born January 21, 1935
in Fresno, CA, he was the son of the late Estel Davis Quick and Opal Lucille
Rains Quick. Mr. Quick joined the US Air Force in 1952. He served during the
Korean Conflict, supporting military operations in Germany, France and Morocco.
In 1958 he reenlisted into the US Navy where he served one tour of duty in
Vietnam, assigned to the USS Hancock, an attack carrier stationed off the coast
of North and South Vietnam. Mr. Quick also served during the Cuban Missile
Crisis of 1962. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal and the Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal for Cuba. He had been employed as a salesman at Lowe’s. Mr.
Quick was a member of VFW Post #9696 of Bluefield, VA and the Disabled American
Veterans of Princeton and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his
wife Carolene C. Quick of the home; two sons, Ronald E. Quick, II and his wife
Kristy of Colorado Springs, CO and John W. Quick and his wife Leslie of
Tazewell, VA; and two grandchildren, Tabitha of Colorado Springs, CO and Lakin
of Tazewell.
Memorial services will
be held Tuesday June 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with
Pastor George Stamper officiating. Military services will be provided by the
Mercer County Veterans Council.
The family will receive
friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
