Elizabeth P. “Lib” Wood, age 90, wife of Richard J. “Dick” Wood, Heatherwood
Road, Bluefield, West Virginia, died on June 13, 2006 after a brief illness.
Lib Wood (“Mary Elizabeth Pritchett”) was the fourth of seven children born to
Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Pritchett, of Gary, West Virginia and later, Bluefield,
Virginia. Charles E. Pritchett was the Superintendent of the Norfolk and
Western Railway in Gary, WV and ran a number of businesses in the coalfields
until his death. Lib graduated from Graham High School then attended Bluefield
College and secretarial school in Bluefield. She worked for the Pure Oil
Company and married Richard Wood in 1947 after he returned from the South
Pacific in WWII. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution,
The McGuffey Book Club and was active in the Presbyterian Church’s Women’s
Circles. Lib and Dick raised three children while Dick Wood worked for the
Appalachian Power Company and later was a founder of Pemco Corporation.
She was a member of First
Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, WV. She is survived by her husband, Richard
J. Wood of Bluefield, WV, her sister, Dorothy P. Thompson of Houston, Texas, and
her three children, Dr. Diana P. Wood of Birmingham, Alabama, The Rev. Dr. David
J. Wood of Richmond, Virginia, Hugh C. Wood of Atlanta, Georgia and five
grandchildren.
Funeral
services will be held Friday, June 16, 2006, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian
Church, Bluefield, West Virginia with The Rev. Dr. W. D. Hasty officiating.
Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV.
The family will receive
friends at the Mercer Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night.
