James P. Crouse, Sr., 83, of
Route 52 (P.O. Box 454) Iaeger, WV died Thursday June 1, 2006 in a Princeton
hospital.
Born September 21, 1922
in Whitewood, VA, he was the son of the late William Josh Crouse and Bertha
Stacy Crouse. Mr. Crouse was affiliated with the Baptist faith and had worked
for the Berra-Poca Coal Company where he was a tipple operator. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and was in Normandy on
D-Day. Mr. Crouse was a member of the VFW Post # 1148, Iaeger and was also a
member of the Bradshaw Post of the American Legion.
In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gus Crouse and one
half-brother, Charlie Crouse.
Survivors include his
wife of 58 years, Mary E. “Tommie” Crouse, of the home; one son, James P.
Crouse, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Iaeger; one sister, Gracie Morrison of Iaeger;
one grandson, William Jason Crouse of Iaeger; one granddaughter, Marsha Anita
Blankenship and her husband Donald of Kingsport, TN; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will
be held Saturday June 3, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel
with Rev. Danny Gunnoe officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial
Gardens in Princeton where military graveside rights will be performed by the
Mercer County Veterans Council.
Pallbearers will be his
son, James P. Crouse, Jr.; grandson, William Jason Crouse; grandson-in-law,
Donald Blankenship, other members of the family.
The family will receive
friends Friday June 2nd from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the American
Heart Association, West Virginia Region, 162 Court Street, Charleston, WV 25301
or the American Cancer Society, 1816 Jefferson Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.
