Bluefield, WV- Richard L. “Dickie” Clarkson, 79, of 1624 Augusta Street Ext., Bluefield, died Saturday July 29, 2006 at a Bluefield hospital.

     Born November 7, 1926 in Columbus, OH, he was the son of the late Howard Clarkson and Lillian Kirby Clarkson.  Mr. Clarkson was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield and was a retired Engineer for N & S Railroad.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Bluefield American Legion.  He was a former member of Fincastle Country Club and the Bluefield Elks Lodge. 

     Survivors include his wife, Betty Harmon Clarkson of the home; two daughters, Dawn Stout of Sanford, FL and Karen Begley and her husband Joe of Bradenton, FL; two brothers, Ralph Clarkson and his wife Joyce of Green Valley and Paul Bailey of Ashland, KY; and three grand children, Courtney Michaud, Jennifer Begley and Kellen Begley. 

     Graveside services will be conducted Monday July 31, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton with Retired Navy Chaplin David Simmons officiating.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council.  Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at the cemetery.
