Bluefield-
Virginia Nelle Shamblin, 93,
of 514 Mountain View Avenue, Bluefield, WV died Tuesday July 25, 2006 in
Raleigh, NC.
Born April 11, 1913 in
Indian, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles Phillip Russell and Grace
Steele Hall Russell. She was a member of Bland Street United Methodist Church
and a member of the Bluefield YMCA where she achieved recognition for 1000 miles
of swimming.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Shamblin; one
daughter, Joy; one brother, Charles, Jr. and two sisters, Otholeen Cunningham
and Lorraine Hall.
Survivors include one
son, Happy A. Shamblin and wife Edith of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Gay D.
Bartlett and husband Jack of Surprise, AZ; brother, Edward Russell of Bluefield,
VA; sister, Dora Gibson of Portsmouth, OH; six grandchildren, eight great-
grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces;
and one sister-in-law, Ruth Shamblin of Abingdon, VA.
Funeral services will
be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 29, 2006 from the Mercer Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. David L. Hall, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at
Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell.
Serving the family as
pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
The Shamblin family
will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday July 28th at the funeral
home.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bland Street United
Methodist Church, 2620 Bland Road, Bluefield, WV 24701; or the American Stroke
Association (a division of the American Heart Association), West Virgina, Ohio,
