Rocky Gap, VA-
Oppie Thurman Conley, 82, of
Rocky Gap, VA, passed away Tuesday December 26, 2006 at home after fighting a
long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 13, 1924 in
Rocky Gap, he was the son of the late Bernard and Ida Brookman Conley. He
served his country in World War II from 1943 until 1949 and was past commander
of VFW Post #7969 in Bland. He was a retired carpenter.
In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Bernard, Jr., Roy, Clifford,
Bobby and Watha Conley; three sisters, Goldie Shrader, June Mize and Jean
Sheets.
He is survived by his
loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Bonnie Nelson Conley; three lovely
daughters, Alice Trail and husband Scott of Bastain, VA, Linda Kottman of
Princeton, WV and Nancy Conley of Blacksburg, VA; two beautiful granddaughters,
Devan and Madison Trail which he adored; two sisters, Lena Pruett and husband
Henry of Bluefield, WV and Lorraine Shrader and husband Verlin of Narrows, VA;
three very special and helpful friends, Jeremy Worley, Rob Ingram and Trevor
Newman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held
in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield on Friday December 29, 2006 at
1:00 p.m. with Rev. Henry Conley officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn
Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be family and
friends.
The family will receive
friends Thursday December 28th from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the
funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions, if
desired, be made to The American Cancer Society, 1808 Jefferson Street,
Bluefield, WV 24701.
