Bluefield, WV
– Ruth Anne Brammer Meem, 83 of 1400 Lebanon Street, Bluefield passed away
peacefully Wednesday December 20, 2006 at her Bluefield home. Born in
Huntington, WV on October 15, 1923. She had been suffering from severe
Alzheimers disease for several years. She was the daughter of the late
Fred E. and Olive Ann Cofer Brammer.
In addition to her
parents she was preceded in death by her late husband Gilbert S. Meem and 2
sisters and a brother also, a son Peter Botts Meem, who was fatally injured in a
car accident in May 1980.
Mrs. Meem was an avid
golfer, who won the Bluefield Country Club women’s golf championship for many
years. Additionally, she was a recognized tennis player and active in the
Bluefield Garden Club. She and her late husband, Gilbert S. Meem were
instrumental in helping design the swimming pool and program at the YM/YMCA in
the early 1960’s. She attended Marshall University and moved to Bluefield in
December 1948 when she and Gil were married.
Surviving Mrs. Meem are
her two sons, Gilbert S. Meem, Jr. and his wife Knight Patterson Meem of New
York City, NY and their children Simrall, Baird and Halsey, and son Langhorne H.
Meem, II and his wife Molly Gayle Meem of Richmond, VA and their daughter
Ashton.
Memorial Services for
Mrs. Meem will be conducted on Thursday December 28, 2006 at 11:30 AM from the
Mercer Funeral Home Chapel, with the Fr. Bill Armstrong officiating. Friends
may call at the funeral home from 10:30 – 11:30 AM on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers the
family request memorial donations be made if desired, to Washington and Lee
University or Virginia Military Institute, in Lexington, VA
