Bluefield, WV, Evelyn M. Johnson, 77 of 100
Ramsey Street Bluefield, WV died Monday August 28, 2006 in a Bluefield
hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born September 12, 1928 to the late Raleigh and
Nannie Bye Compton. She was the last living member of her immediate family.
She was a retired manager from Hardees’ Restaurant and a member of the Community
Baptist Church in Bluefield. Her life’s interest was her grandchildren and dogs
and especially enjoyed her granddaughter Orena and reading her Bible.
In addition to her
parents she is preceded in death by the husband William Thomas Johnson, three
brothers: Frazier Compton, Clinton Compton and Clifford Compton.
Surviving Mrs. Johnson
are her daughter Mary Gillespie and husband Colin of Bluefield, WV, four sons;
Danny Ray Johnson and wife Gail of Bluefield, Michael Johnson and wife Peggy of
Bluefield, VA, Thomas Johnson and wife Lorraine of Bluefield, WV and Steve
Johnson of Bluefield, VA. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and several
great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services for
Mrs. Johnson will be held on Thursday August 31, 2006 at 2:00 PM from the Mercer Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Burial will follow at the
Grandview Memory Gardens Cemetery in Bluefield, VA
The Johnson family will
receive friends on Wednesday August 30, 2006 at the funeral home from 6 – 8 PM
Serving the family, as
pallbearers will be Thomas Johnson, Jason Johnson, Jim Hamm, Colin Gillespie,
Steve Hamm and Tim Lawson.
The family suggest in
lieu of family memorial donations may be made, if desired to the Alzheimer’s
