June Deaumer Grubb, 83, of 2809 Grandview Avenue (formerly 212 Union Street)
Bluefield, WV, moved to her heavenly home on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 enveloped
in the love of her immediate family.
She was born on June
30, 1923 in Bluefield, WV to Theodore O. Deaumer and Henrietta B. Deaumer. She
was the youngest of six children and lived a full childhood. She graduated from
Beaver High School, Bluefield College and the University of South Carolina
ultimately earning B. A. degrees in Political Science and Journalism. She
subsequently worked for the Sunset News Observer and the Bluefield
Daily Telegraph as the society director, where she met her husband Melvin
whom she nicknamed “Slim.”
In addition to lovingly
supporting her husband, raising two strong children and working full-time she
made many contributions to the community. She was a member of Westminster
Presbyterian Church, attending there from birth, where she was a past president
of the Women of the Church, taught Sunday School and had been a circle Bible
teacher and leader. She was also honored with the Women’s Lifetime Membership
by the Presbyterian Church. In her earlier years she was an Elite Jr. Sponsor
and spoke fondly of “her girls” who were members of the club. She also worked
for the YMCA as a Y-Teen and Pigtail Tots director and was a Girl Scout leader.
She enjoyed being involved in the Bluefield Garden Club, serving as a past
president; the American Association of University Women, serving as a past
president and the Bluefield Union Mission Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her
husband of 58 years, Melvin L. Grubb; a son, Mark and his wife Kristie Grubb of
Tehachapi, and a daughter, Lindsey and her husband Bruce Barilla of Bluefield,
WV and White Sulpher Springs; two sisters, Lois D. Taylor of Bluefield, WV and
Joan Nash of Lewisville, TX; a sister-in-law, Nita Crouch Grubb of Highland
Village, TX; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bertha Forsythe, Virginia (Teddi)
Coburn and her brother Theodore (Ted) Oscar Deaumer, Jr.
According to her wishes
her earthly remains will be cremated and no visitation or services will be
held. In celebration of a life well-lived and to continue her vision of serving
