Doughten Brown, 85, of 4142 Bonney Road, Virginia Beach died Thursday August 10,
2006 at a Virginia Beach nursing home.
Born June 13, 1921 in
Maiden Springs, VA, she was the daughter of the late Perry Doughten and Lona Mae
Davis Doughten. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and was a very active member of
College Avenue Baptist Church. She was the Chaplin of the Resident Council at
River Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she was also a member of
the Bible Club. She was a very avid reader.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bundy Brown; one son,
Fred N. Brown; three brothers, Earl Doughten, Pete Doughton and Robert Doughten;
and two sisters, Lena Doughten and Bessie Moorehead.
Survivors include one
son, Robert B. Brown and his wife Gwen of Elizabethtown, KY; two sisters,
Virginia Sands and her husband Burley of Ohio and Marie Sands of Virginia Beach,
VA; many nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Norman “Bus” Earl Doughten.
Funeral services will
be conducted on Saturday August 12th, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the
Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Bruce Woodson officiating. Burial will follow
at Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Green Valley.
The family will receive
friends at the funeral home on Friday August 11th from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the charity
of one’s choice.
