
Bluefield
- Charles Edward Howell, 87, of 2821 Grandview St., Bluefield, WV and also of
his vacation home at Claytor Lake, died Monday May 7, 2007 at the Phillips
Personal Care of Lerona, WV.
Born April 8, 1920 in
Greenbrier County, WV, he was the son of the late James W. Howell and Viola
Nickell Howell. He had been a resident of Bluefield for 62 years, and was
originally from Front Royal, VA. He was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church of
Bluefield where he was a member of the Men’s Sunday School class. Mr. Howell
was a Serviceman for A.E.P. for 33 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S.
Army Air Corps where he was a Staff Sergeant. While serving his country, Mr.
Howell was a “Waist Gunner” on a B-17. He also had a fondness for woodwork.
In addition to his
parents, Mr. Howell was preceded in death by three brothers, Gordon, Kenneth and
Bill Howell; and three sisters, Ruth Harman, Francis Matthews and Mildred Lee.
Survivors include his
wife, Helen Bailey Howell of Lerona, WV; one son, Danny E. Howell of Bluefield;
former daughter-in-law, Connie Howell of Green Valley; one step-grandson, Eric
Ball of Green Valley; a special niece, Ann Thomas and her husband Bill of Front
Royal, VA; and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will
be conducted on Thursday May 10th, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Edgemont
Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Owens officiating. Entombment will follow in the
Chapel of the Wildwood at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends of
the family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive
friends at the Mercer Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, March 9th
from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
