– Keith Douglas Leffel 49 of Birmingham, AL and formerly of Bluefield died
Thursday October 26, 2006 in Birmingham.
Born December 24, 1956
in Bluefield, WV he was a son of Virginia Robinette Leffel of Bluefield and the
late William R. “Rudy” Leffel.
Keith was a 1975
graduate of Bluefield High School and graduated from West Virginia University in
1979. He was a physical therapist and Director of Rehabilitation Services at St.
Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham where he had been employed since his graduation
from WVU. In 1991, he received the Alabama Occupational Therapy Association
Award of Merit for major contributions to the field of occupational therapy.
This award is given to one person each year in the state that does not work in
the field of occupational therapy.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a volunteer for Hospice and Habitat for
Humanity. In addition to his father, William R. “Rudy” Leffel, he was preceded
in death by a niece Heather Rozmus Rhodes, and his loving dogs Deputy and
Griffin.
Surviving, are his mother Virginia Robinette Leffel of Bluefield, WV, two
sisters; Dr. Cathy Leffel Rozmus and her husband Glenn of Americus, GA, and
Cheryl Leffel Morgan and her husband Michael of Broad Run, VA, a brother; Brian
Leffel and his wife Elaine of Huntsville, AL, nieces and nephews Dr. Alison
Rozmus Huppman and her husband Mike of Rockville, MD, Aaron Rozmus of Americus,
GA, Andrew and Daniel Morgan of Broad Run, VA and Sara and Laura Leffel of
Huntsville, AL, and his beloved dog Austin.
Funeral services will be
conducted Tuesday October 31, 2006 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church with
Rev. Ed Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens
Cemetery at Princeton, WV. Those serving the family as pallbearers will be Ron
Townley, Abel Solademi, John Ayers, Don Rice, Ollie Law, Dwight Robinett and
Loyd Robinett.
There will also be a
memorial service Wednesday November 1, 2006 at 5:00 pm at St. Vincent’s Hospital
Chapel in Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends
Monday October 30, 2006 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Mercer Funeral Home &
Crematory of Bluefield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial
contributions be made to a scholarship in Keith’s name c/o West Virginia
University Foundation.
