Violette Steele Garland Lucas, 95, of 1320 Montclair Street, Bluefield, WV, died
Thursday October 26, 2006 at her residence.
Born May 1, 1911 in
Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Willie Bishop Steele.
She attended Bluefield schools, was an active member of the Bluefield Civic
League and the Rebekah Lodge, where she served as secretary for many years. She
was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for most of her life.
In addition to her
parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Ray and
Paul Steele; three sisters, Madge Brooks, Aileen Young and Myrtle Gillespie; one
grandchild and one great grandchild.
She will be greatly
missed by her children, Tanner Benjamin Garland, Jr. and his wife Sylvia, Earl
Garland and his wife Angie and JoAnne Garland Philpott and husband Charles.
She was very much loved
by 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and three great-great
grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and
friends.
Funeral services will
be conducted Sunday October 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in
Bluefield with Pastor Jim Davidson and Rev. James Milam officiating.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Graveside services will
be conducted Monday October 30th at 11:00 at Monte Vista Park
Cemetery in Green Valley. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet
at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m.
The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Saturday October 28th from 6:00 until
8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1415 Highland
Avenue, Bluefield, WV 24701.
