- Denver Nelson Holbrook, 89 of 1424 Montclair St. Bluefield, WV died Tuesday
October 24, 2006 in a Bluefield hospital.
Born May 12, 1917 in
Gratton, Va he was a son of the late Randolf Matthew and Maime Wagner Holbrook.
Mr. Holbrook was a
graduate of Bluefield Business College and the owner and operator of the Manco
Oil and Supply Co. Mr. Holbrook was Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and
served in W.W. II. Mr. Holbrook was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church,
Riley-Vest Post #9 Bluefield, WV, Bluefield Elks Lodge#269, and a former member
of the Bluefield Lions Club.
In addition to his
parents he was preceded in death by, a son; Dwight Matthew Holbrook, a brother;
Randolf “Doc” Holbrook, and a sister; Thelma King.
Survivors include; his
wife, Helen Miller Holbrook of the home, a son; Duane Nelson Holbrook also of
the home, a daughter; Karen Holbrook Knauer and husband Gary of Sandusky, OH, a
sister; Cassie Carter of Bluefield, WV, a brother; J.W. Holbrook of Bluefield,
VA, two grandchildren; Chad Knauer of Sandusky, OH, Jennifer Bauer of Bellevue,
OH, and a great-granddaughter; Brooke Bauer of Bellevue, OH.
Funeral services will be
conducted Friday October 27, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. from the Mercer Funeral Home
Chapel with the Dr. Charles Miller and Dr. Don Scott officiating. The will
receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow from
the Maple Hill Park Cemetery located in Bluefield, VA with military graveside
rites preformed by the mercer County Veterans Council. Serving as pallbearers
will be friends of the family.
