- Leola Marie Doughten
Sands, 80, of 4560 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA died Thursday October
19, 2006 in a Virginia Beach Hospital.
Born April 6, 1926 in
Coleman, VA, she was the daughter of the late Peery Doughten and Loni Davis
Doughten. Mrs. Sands retired as a Clerk for the City of Virginia Beach. She
was also a member of College Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Sands was preceded in death by her husband, Haskel T. Sands, Sr.;
three sisters, Lillian Mozelle Doughten Brown, Lena Doughten and Bessie
Moorehead; and three brothers, Earl Doughten, Pete Doughton, and Robert
Doughten.
Survivors include her
children, Sylvia Canada and her husband Jim of Virginia Beach, VA, Tom Sands,
Jr. and his wife Gail of Mooresville, NC, Jim Sands of Virginia Beach, Rose
Durkee of Virginia Beach, Ken Sands and his wife Lisa of Suffolk, VA and Mike
Sands and his wife Debbie of South Mills, NC; one sister, Virginia Sands and her
husband Burley of Bolivar, OH; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a
special nephew, Norman Earl “Bus” Doughten of Bluefield, WV; and many nieces and
nephews.
Graveside services will
be conducted Monday October 23, 2006 at 11:00 at Monte Vista Park Cemetery with
Dr Allen Hammond officiating. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to
meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the

to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 1115, Dunbar, WV 25064.
