– George Harold Hoback, Sr. 90 of 1217 College Avenue Bluefield, WV died Tuesday
October 10, 2006 at a Bluefield hospital.
Harold was born October
30 1915 in Bluefield, the son of the late George C. Hoback and Maude DeVault
Hoback.
He was educated in the
public schools of Bluefield and Norton, VA. After graduating from Norton High
School, he enrolled in Bluefield College, graduating in 1936. He then enrolled
in the University of Alabama where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha
Fraternity.
Harold returned to Bluefield
in 1940 where he was employed by the Norfolk & Western Railroad for a period of
41 years in the engineering Department. He was a member of Bland Street United
Methodist Church, The Bluefield Lions Club, Riley-Vest-Post # 9 of the American
Legion, The Bluefield Elks Lodge No. 269 and the Railway Retirement Club.
In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Shupe Hoback after 56
years of marriage.
He is survived by a son
George H. Hoback, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Wilmington, NC and a grandson Brandon
Ryan Hoback, also of Wilmington, NC.
Funeral services will be
conducted Thursday evening October 12, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Mercer
Funeral Home & Crematory of Bluefield with Rev. David L. Hall, Jr. officiating.
The family will receive
friends from 5:00 pm until the service hour Thursday.
Graveside rites and
burial will be at 10:00 am Friday at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley.
Pallbearers will be Roger Whitt, Lon Hopkins, Bob Little, Bob Gatherum, and Bob
Blair.
