Bluefield- William D. “Bill” Goodwin, Sr., 82, of Rt.2 Box 215, Bluefield, WV, died Wednesday September 14, 2005 in a Bluefield hospital.

   Born January 29, 1923 in Tazewell County, VA, he was a son of the late Walter and Flora Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was a  graduate of Beaver High School and McClain’s Business School and retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad where he worked as a Stenographer  for 42 years and was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for 53 years where he served as Deacon and Church Treasurer.

   In addition to his parents Mr. Goodwin was preceded in death by brothers, Earl, George, and Paul Goodwin of Bluefield, WV, Carl Goodwin of Springfield, IL, Jim Goodwin of Indianapolis, IN, and Clarence Goodwin of Detroit, MI, sisters; Sylvastus Burton and Dorothy Bowling of Bluefield, WV, and Marguerette Spangler of Holden, WV.

   Survivors include; wife of 61 years, Margaret Sue Pruett Goodwin, a son, W.D. Goodwin, Jr. and wife Nancee of Hampstead, MD, a daughter; Martha Taylor and husband Roy of Hardy, VA, a granddaughter; Jessica Goodwin of Altamonte Springs, FL, two grandsons; William James”Jamie” Goodwin and wife Jessica of Westminster, MD and Dr. Ron Taylor, Jr. of Rome, GA, a great-grandson; William James Goodwin, Jr. of Westminster, MD, a sister-in-law; Mary Belcher, special friends; Debbie Sperry, Sherry Conley, Polly Dunbar, Don Sawyers,   and Emery Cartwright.

   Funeral services for Mr. Goodwin will be conducted Saturday September 17 at 2:00 P.M. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Jim Milam officiating burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery located in Princeton, WV. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Mike Akers, Steve Bourne, Sr., Don Irvin, Gene Lester, and Don Sawyers.

   Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday September 17, 2005 from 12:00 until 2:00 P.M.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions if desired, may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, 1415 Highland Ave., Bluefield, WV 24701.
