
Bluefield- David Fowler
Bell, Jr., M.D.,
84, of 2708 Mountain View Ave. Bluefield, died Friday February 3, 2006 at his
home.
Born November 26, 1921
in Baltimore, MD he was a son of the late David Fowler Bell, Sr. and Mattie
Adams Bell. Dr. David Bell was a graduate of the University of Maryland at
College Park and of the University of Maryland Medical School. He moved to
Bluefield in 1954 to join the staff of the Bluefield Sanitarium, where he
practiced pathology for many years before joining the staff of the Bluefield
Community Hospital. He also served as Mercer County Medical Examiner and
provided medical services to the construction workers building the East River
Mountain Tunnel. He was active in the West Virginia State Medical Association,
and he later became president of the board of directors of the Mercer County
Commission on Aging. A long-time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church,
Dr. Bell served as a deacon and an elder. A member of the Elks Club, and before
that of the Kiwanis Club, he also belonged to the University Club. He served for
several years as a member of the board of trustees of Davis and Elkins College.
Survivors include his
wife, Helen Biesecker Bell, children; Claudia Grundman and husband Adoph of
Arvada, CO, David F. Bell, III and wife Martine of Durham, NC, Edith Moser and
husband Terry of Port Orange, FL, Jane Ferguson and husband Steve of Blackstone,
VA, Amy Mathewson and husband Christopher of Siler City, NC, a sister; Catherine
Edwards of Dundalk, MD, a brother; Jack Bell and wife Pat of Arlington Heights,
IL, eight grand-children; Sara Grundman, Julie Grundman, Dorian Bell, Sophie
Bell, Matt Ferguson, Megan Ferguson, Alyssa Mathewson, and Jared Mathewson.
Memorial services will
be conducted Monday February 6, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. from the Westminster
Presbyterian Church of Bluefield with the Rev. Howard Finkel officiating.
