Betty J. Peery Hatfield Sykes, 74, of 300 Tyler Street, Bluefield, WV, died
Thursday March 16, 2006 at her residence.
Born August 22, 1931 in
Tazewell County, she was the daughter of the late Glenn W. Perry and Maude Lee
Harmon Peery. She was an Administrative Assistant at Bluefield State College for
34 years and attended the First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the
Bluefield Moose Lodge.
In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kent Amos Sykes, and one
brother, Glenn Peery, Jr.
Survivors include two
daughters, Belinda L. Hatfield of Bluefield, WV and Glenna Darlene Hatfield of
Salem, VA; one sister, Charlotte Mitchell of Charleston, WV and one
brother-in-law, Thomas Mitchell of Charleston; one granddaughter, Courtney
Fredrick and one great grandchild, Jordan J. Reed.
Funeral services will
be conducted on Monday March 20, 2006 in the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel at 1 PM
with Rev. Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until
the time of service on Monday.
Burial will follow at
Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield, VA.
